Running Barefoot. Do you do it?

nprfreshair:

Today’s show talks about running barefoot. I’ve never done this (though I do run distances.) Have you? Worth it?

Reblogged from NPR Fresh Air
  1. proverbialblog answered: No way! There’s way too much glass on the street in Brooklyn to run barefoot.
  2. vampat answered: Oh yes i do all the time because i’m just a boss like that lol im reaally tired so these answers are probably getting really weird lol haha
  3. blackwombat34 answered: I’ve been running in my Vibrams for a few months now. Totally worth it! No more knee pain and faster times! Train first, take it easy! :)
  4. weeta answered: i don’t really run, but i walk barefoot all the time. would see about those horrible “barefoot shoes” but they’re too ugly and too expensive!
  5. greykoi answered: I love the contact you get with the ground beneath you. I run barefoot all the time.

  7. hopeless-brony answered: Good god, no! The surface of this planet is covered with broken glass, dog feces, and pointy rocks designed to remove toenails. Shoes 4ever.

  12. everythingcanbepossible answered: yes I have done so and I love it!?
  13. uchinaguchi said: Yes! The most important thing is to have a compatible surface for your feet. New barefoot runners should start on softer surfaces to build up their feet calluses. Otherwise you could develop the worst blisters of your life!
  14. emilykilpatrick answered: I walk barefoot (with Fivefingers) every day, and it’s great! I tried to be a runner (w/shoes) but it hurt my knees.

Barefoot running on Fresh Air!! Two of my favorite things! I mean I’ve never tried barefoot running but I find the whole...

  17. katystonemusic answered: only on the beach and I’m really good about watching for barnicles.
  18. havesomehappyhappshapsdawg answered: It’s so much fun! It’s great for improving running posture and gait. But for competitive running, nothing quite replaces a good pair of shoes
  19. justanotherbildungsroman answered: I used to run barefoot as a kid (I did everything barefoot then) and I’d like to go back to it if I could find a safe place to do so.
  20. lno0osh answered: I don’t understand what you say ;/ !!

  22. mil0o answered: I used to get shin splints all the time and now that a i run with vibrams on.
  23. barefootfiddler answered: Yes! It’s the only way I can run without hip pain!
  24. reasonstolovechicago answered: This is how our bodies were designed to run! I hated running before I discovered “barefoot” shoes: protection + natural form = no more pain!
  25. gogreenies answered: I’m transitioning into it. I currently own Brooks PureConnect shoes, I can’t wait until my feet are strong enough to do barefoot.
  26. sea-of-joy answered: vibramfivefingers.com Better for running, walking, whatever. Swear by them. Also, “Whoa, look at your shoes!” never gets old.
  27. survivingmyself answered: I bought new sockless running shoes, designed to be close to barefoot. Super comfortable but after two weeks they smell like death.
  28. victoria-klein answered: I run in Vibrams (close to barefoot) & have for over a year. I’d love to run truly barefoot, but I just don’t feel my feet are safe.
  29. nnorthway answered: I run barefoot on the beach. I won’t do it on the sidewalks/concrete…too much garbage or risk of glass and such.
  30. everydayinteractions answered: No! Cavemen were barefoot because they didn’t have to dodge broken beer bottles, discarded condoms, or other treasures littering our streets.
  31. our-pain answered: I Never wear shoes unless it is ABSOLUTLY nessesary, Running is fun If its on Smooth Concrete, Or Regular Grass :D

  35. afniel answered: I can’t run now sadly but I did do some barefoot in the past. You really have to learn how to place your feet properly! It was great fun tho.
  36. thepretentioushippie answered: Barefoot running through the grass is one of the best feelings in the world, and it is hard for me to believe you have not done it.
  37. steveames answered: It’s wonderful to feel the temperature and texture of the ground when running barefoot. Yes. I do it! And recommend it. Carefully. Also hike.
  38. awesomebrainpowers answered: I use VivoBarefoot Ultra Pures, which are like running barefoot, but with fewer splinters. I love it.
